US revokes breast cancer drug's licence

US health officials have revoked the authorisation of bevacizumab (Avastin) for breast cancer treatment, saying the drug has "not been shown to be safe and effective for that use". Bevacizumab will remain on the market as an approved treatment for certain types of colon, lung, kidney and brain cancer, but will no longer be indicated for advanced breast cancer, said the US Food and Drug Administration.
