Brachytherapy better for QOL in prostate cancer

Brachytherapy (BT) has less of a negative impact on patients with prostate cancer than radical prostatectomy (RP), a Canadian study has shown.
The partially randomised trial found after between 3.2 and 6.5 years after treatment, there was no significant difference between the two treatments in the bowel or hormonal domains but BT scored better in urinary and sexual domains as well as in patient satisfaction.
Of the 263 participants, 34 consented to random assignment, 62 chose RP and 94 chose BT.
Nearly 80% of men treated with BT reported erections firm enough for sexual activity compared with under 50% of men treated with RP.
