The efficiency of current cancer prevention policies could be improved by some simple measures including raising the starting age of the cervical cancer screening program and extending the screening interval to three years, concludes the most comprehensive evaluation of health prevention measures.
As a result of the the benefits gained by the introduction of the HPV vaccine, current cervical screening could be relaxed, the report said.
“With the HPV vaccination program in place, the current screening program should extend screening frequency to three years and/or increase the starting age to 25, which would save large amount of costs in screening and management/treatment for abnormal Pap test (to offset the vaccination program cost),” the authors wrote.
