The addition of vandetanib to docetaxel prolongs progression-free survival (PFS) in patients with previously treated advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), an international study presented at the ASCO conference has found.
The regimen was associated with a median progression-free survival of 4 months vs. 3.2 months with docetaxel and placebo (HR, 0.79; P< .001) at a median follow-up of 12.8 months, the phase III ZODIAC trial found.
The study randomised almost 1,400 patients who had previously received chemotherapy for NSCLC to vandetanib plus docetaxel (n=694) 75 mg/m2 in a 1-h intravenous infusion every three weeks or placebo plus docetaxel (n=697) and followed up for an average of 12.8 months.
