A Sydney patient with extensive metastatic melanoma has experienced remarkable cancer regression on topical immunotherapy and silver sulfadiazine, dermatologists report.
Dr Diona Damian and colleagues from Sydney's Royal Prince Alfred Hospital described the case of an 82-year-old man with rapidly progressing cutaneous melanoma metastases on his left thigh in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology this month.
The previous year he had a primary 2mm melanoma excised from his left shin, and left inguinal metastases treated with node dissection and adjuvant radiotherapy.
The discovery of bilateral pulmonary metastases and left thigh cutaneous recurrences resulted in four cycles of dacarbazine, but the metastases continued to progress.
