Daily aspirin reduces colorectal cancers: RCT

For the first time, a randomised controlled trial of aspirin for chemoprevention has demonstrated significant positive results, showing a 60% reduction in colorectal cancer incidence among Lynch syndrome patients taking the drug. The practice-changing study, published in The Lancet this morning, will see aspirin “written into the guidelines for Lynch syndrome”, according to study co-author, Professor Finlay Macrae of Melbourne Hospital. And together with other recent research, the findings suggested aspirin chemoprevention was an attractive option for other people at high risk of colorectal cancer, Professor Macrae told Oncology Update.
